Have you ever roamed the streets alone, searching for peace?
You may have seen the human-like figure with the spiral head shape in my art, also known as a 'Lost Soul'. This symbol represents all of us as humans, in our most pure form, our soul.
I had this idea to shoot a short film capturing the feeling of being a lost soul, roaming the streets, trying to find peace in the chaos and dealing with the death of a loved one.
This short film starts with me on a park bench, drawing and meditating by myself. I end up falling asleep and into a trance. I begin wandering through city, down alley ways, on the subway, across the West Philly bridge, as I cope with a loss of someone who has moved onto the spiritual realm.
The recurring lost souls figure that follow me throughout the video represent signs from the universe, and the ones I've lost, that I'm on the right path. When I finally wake up from this trance, I feel reborn - ready to accept the loss of someone I love, and move forward with my life.
This feels especially poignant as I just lost one of my best friends in August 2024 to suicide. Similar to the voicemail in the video, I didn't get to say goodbye, but I know I'll see her in the next life.
If you’ve ever lost someone you loved, questioned your purpose, felt alone, or roamed the city streets in the middle of the night hoping to find yourself - this is for you. Watch the full short film:
Shot by Liam Rosay in Philadelphia, May 2024
